Dr Monicah Maichomo (PhD, UON, 2008) is the director, KALRO-Veterinary research Institute (VRI), located in Muguga. She has about 20 years of research experience and started her research career working with the then Kenya Trypanosomiasis Research Instititute from 1997 – 2005 before joining KARI (currently KALRO) in 2005. Dr Maichomo is an experienced veterinarian and with research interests in veterinary epidemiology, zoonoses and vaccine work in an effort to improve livestock productivity. She also has teaching experience from JKUAT. She oversees various research works at KALRO-VRI and is the lead investigator in the ongoing donkey trade in Kenya that has implications on rural livelihoods as well as donkey welfare gaps.
