Michael Orangi is the Senior Associate, Sustainable Agriculture, East and Southern Africa, Landscapes and Communities of the Rainforest Alliance. He provides information and training to Rainforest Alliance Certified™ farm and group representatives (certificate holders), trainers and other stakeholders on the Rainforest Alliance certification program and serves as the tea specialist for the region. He is a result-driven professional with a progressive career, holding a Master of Science degree in Soil Science, a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture and an International Diploma in Project Management (Professional Level). Currently undertaking his PhD studies in Integrated Soil Fertility Management aimed at applied sustainability research and agricultural technologies focusing on water stress management and Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation to alleviate poverty and food insecurity. He has over 17 years working experience in different organisations and sectors mainly in tea and coffee agriculture and manufacturing industries. He has served in different capacities as a Business Development Advisor for Fairtrade Africa, a Trainer in Rainforest Alliance Sustainable Agriculture Standards, Integrated Pest/Crop Management and Financial Literacy for the Rainforest Alliance Inc.; a Consultant Trainer in Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation for Ethical Tea Partnership; a Field Manager for the Wood Foundation Africa in Rwanda; Agricultural Extension Officer for Sasini Coffee and Tea; and as a Field Services Coordinator for the Kenya Tea Development Agency Limited.
